This course is recommended for anyone working in an environment where control of the spead of infection is of critical importance.

The workshop will provide a general understanding of current infection control challenges and look at the practical precautions that can be taken to protect service users, visitors and healthcare workers.

Content and Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the current challenges facing those involved in infection control
  • Identify the causative agents responsible for bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitical infection
  • Describe the chain of infection
  • List the Standard Infection Control Precautions which can prevent or limit the spread of infection
  • Describe specific controls and precautions required for particular infections encountered in the healthcare environment
  • Practice and evaluate effective hand-washing and the use of alcohol hand gels
  • Discuss the importance of effective environmental cleaning and disinfection
  • Understand the requirements for Notification and Exclusion
  • Examine methods for the disposal of clinical waste and sharps
  • Describe an appropriate response to a sharps injury
  • Discuss the safe handling of contaminated linen

 

Duration and Assessment

1/2 day workshop lasting approximately 3 hours leading to the issue of an attendance certificate.

Cost

£250 plus VAT for in-house training.  There is no maximum number of candidates although this will be limited by the space available, which should allow for interactive group work.
